Downtown Mechanicsburg, at the corner of Main Street and R.R. Avenue. We had to stop in the crosswalk seconds after this photo was taken because a particularly strong Braxton-Hicks contraction hit me. A passing policeman asked if I was OK, and he was apparently relieved to hear that I wasn't in labor. "I haven't delivered a baby in 18 years," he said, "and I was hoping not to have to do it again!" This fellow was representative of all the people we encountered in Mechanicburg; everyone was extremely friendly. (Incidentally, I ended up having to sit in the Subway on the left for several minutes to get the cramps to stop.)
