I Missed My First Practice

Tonight was supposed to be my first practice with the Philadelphia Freeze D team at UPenn, and I totally forgot. I'd been looking forward to it all day long, and then at 6pm the nanny came in with The Beaner, and Al came home, and the "mommy, mommy, mommy!" started, and I had to demand a moment to finish a freaking thought... and hockey went out of my head. I can't believe it.

And I can't even tell you how upset I am right now.

Lori,
So sorry to hear that! I'm three games into our season and I know how eager we are for icetime. One thing I can't get over, though...you guys get practices?!

Yeah, it's a new concept for me, too. It's apparently pretty common among regional women's teams, which are coached. (I think the NCWHL in Belmont, CA had practices, too, and they were definitely coached.)

Our Gang Green team usually had a practice or two before the season started, but this will be my first experience on a coached team. It's partly the appeal -- I want to see if coaching/practicing will help me get better. Plus, I suspect C/D is probably the right level for me at the moment, and the rink is only about a mile away.

We ended up not being able to fit a weekend clinic in before the end of the summer, btw, but I'm still hopeful for next year!
